AWS Announces $7B Telangana Data Center Expansion, Shares Rise
Amazon Web Services (AWS) shares climbed after unveiling a $7 billion investment to establish Hyderabad as a cloud infrastructure hub. The 14-year project, announced at the Telangana Rising Global Summit, will support AI development, government digitalization, and enterprise cloud migration across India.
The Telangana government has pledged infrastructure support for AWS's expansion, which includes renewable energy procurement—a key consideration for hyperscalers facing scrutiny over carbon footprints. This marks AWS's largest commitment since its $3.7 billion Mumbai deployment from 2016-2022.
Hyderabad's emergence as a cloud gateway mirrors India's broader tech infrastructure boom, with data center capacity projected to double by 2025. The move strengthens AWS's position against Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud in competing for India's $10 billion public cloud market.
